I have a hazy memory of seeing The Wedding Present here about now and seeing (and possibly talking to) John Peel. But it is a very hazy memory.
Found in an old Melody Maker gig guide. I see Magic Alex played this night at Camden Dublin Castle, and I definitely saw them in London but it was later than this and probably at The Wag club, and after I had met my wife to be. There are other missing gigs around this time, I remember going to The Red Eye in Islington somewhere, to The Orange out in Kensington, and to Rock Garden in Covent Garden, all to see small bands. A couple of these were pay to play venues I think and I went along with friends probably from uk-indie or possbly NME message board. I hope it'll come back to me at some point.

I went to this one, more from this year in my gig history for 1996. I have seen Wedding Present probably six times; Gosport Festival 94 @ Walpole Park (Gosport) ('94), Phoenix 1995 @ Avon Park Raceway (1995), Reading Festival ('96), Finsbury Park Powerhaus (Sir George Robey) (1996), ULU ('97), and The Booking Hall (2017), though I still have some bragging tagging to do so this may go up. Part of a list of every gig I went to from 1987 to 2026. A natural step from my Best Gigs Ever blog post. Yeah I know it's a bit geeky, let's let that go though, I'm having fun remembering these things.
