PaulyGigography1996 ≫ Tripping Daisy

Manchester Roadhouse 8 Newton Street, Manchester M1 2AN

With the Smoking Popes.

Confirmed date now with the help of the Melody Maker gig guide. It was the 22nd after all, not the 24th that I thought. But it looks like it was at the Roadhouse, not the Night And Day... So that leaves me free to be at something else on the 24th. Originally I said:

Guessing the date of this one, but it's an educated guess. Hear me out...

I know I saw them in Manchester at this time, sure it is. The Night and Day. I went up to stay with Richy at university, and I know we also tried to get into Pulp at the Manchester Arena. We had no tickets, but thought we'd have a look. That was on the 23rd February 1996, so this gig must have been the day before or day after that.

So, I'm slightly less confident in the date than I am with most of my wonky gig logging, but this must be very close.

Setlist.fm say they were at London Astoria on the 21st Feb (supporting Silverchair), and the Splash Club (Kings Cross Water Rats, also London) on the 23rd, then Glasgow on the 25th, and Birmingham on the 26th. Makes more sense for this to be the 24th than between two London dates. I know I was in Guildford on the 25th and Southampton on the 26th, so can't be after that..

Did I know the singer of Tripping Daisy is also the main guy from Polyphonic Spree? I've seen them too!

This is part of my "twenty gigs in twenty days" challenge I did with three weeks off work, but I can't remember exactly when it started or ended.

I was at this one, more from this year in my gig history for 1996. I saw Tripping Daisy at least TWO times; Manchester Roadhouse ('96), and Southampton Joiners (1996), though I still have some bragging tagging to do so this may go up. Part of all the gigs I went to from '87 to 2026. It's an obvious step from my Best gigs of all time blog post. Yeah I know it's a bit geeky, let's let that go though, I'm enjoying reminiscing about these things.
