PaulyGigography1991 ≫ Wolfsbane

The Marquee 105 Charing Cross Road, London WC2H 0DT

Found the ticket now! I went to the gig on my own then got the last train up to Rugby, where I was staying for college while on my HNC with Nixdorf Much stage diving, one of my favourite ever gigs. I can't find many details online about this gig. I will dig out the ticket, see if there are more clues.

Thinking about this nearly 25 years later I'm not quite sure how I did this. Must have been a Sunday night, so I'd have left home in Portchester on the Sunday afternoon and got the train up as usual to Rugby, via London. But decided to stop in London and go to this gig, and then carry on up to Rugby after.

I do remember it being great, and being stage diving crazy. I have a clear memory of being up on the stage and preparing to throw myself back into the crowd yet again, when a young couple (a boy and a girl) grabbed my shoe; they were annoyed at the stagediving, as I would be now. I remember even what I was wearing, a t-shirt with my green plaid shirt over the top, with skinny black jeans and my massive nike trainers. At the time metallers wore tight jeans and big trainers and mine were nike white basketball boots with purple detail on. I customised mine with fat pink laces.

What was I thinking to go to a gig like this midway between home and college in Rugby? After the gig I still had to go on to Euston, then train up to Rugby, possibly changing at Coventry, and then walk across Rugby to the digs where I was staying...

I found a Wolfsbane gigography that doesn't mention this gig. It looks like they'd just done a few gigs supporting Alice Cooper. That same gigography also says they played the Marquee that new year's eve too, when I'm sure that was a year or two earlier. This one is more like it1 it has this gig on the same date I said, and that British Lion supported.

Someone's elses gigography2 has a tantalisingly similar date that confused me for a while, but it's a different gig. Mine was 1991 and this is almost the same day in 1992. Also he says:

Wolfsbane were late getting to the venue and weren’t due onstage until about the time our last train was leaving

I have removed the scans from the 1992 gig as it's misleading, here's my actual ticket now. It has the date, and though it doesn't mention Wolfsbane I'm sure this is the one.

The only other potential trip up here is that sometimes when I paid on the door for a gig, they gave a ticket from some other gig as a receipt. This happened when I went to Nirvana, there's an outside chance it happened here too.

I attended this one, more from this year in Paul's gig history for 1991. Part of every gig I went to from '87 to 2024. It's a natural step from my Best gigs of all time blog post. Yeah I know very geeky, let's let that go though, I'm having fun reminiscing about this stuff.

Sun Oct 06 1991

Other gigs at The Marquee I attended are Atom Seed (1992), Under Neath What (1991), Atom Seed ('91), Love / Hate ('90), Under Neath What ('89)
