Blog2023 ≫ London weekender: the drive to Greenwich

Following on from my initial burst of info about the shopping I can write up the rest of it. Or at least the start of it, as I will likely run out of energy, as I often do. I tried to make a start by dictating it, so I'll do that "quoting myself" thing to show which bits I recorded and transcribed:

So time to write up my Greenwich based Weekender. Been in London for the weekend and we had to move it to Greenwich to fit in with train strikes, and needed to drive up now. We like Greenwich anyway. We've stayed there before, so this is no hardship. We booked in at the Novotel where we'd stay before, and then just had to worry about getting there and parking. So left work a bit sharpish and drove around to Jim's to pick up the boys. They've been around there for the day because it was their last day of half term. We had the car already packed and we drove straight up there. It's nice and easy to drive because it's the nearest entry point to London for us. We going straight up the M20 and the A2 or the A20 or something like that. I'm not sure. Anyway, we drove through Lee Green where Clare used to live when she first lived with Emma, and found the hotel pretty easily and straight into the underground parking. I did have a plan to look around and try and find some on-street parking, and I had a reserve of paid parking at the station in case I couldn't get into that parking. In the end we just pulled in there prepared to pay, and luckily there was a space. This wasn't guaranteed, and it was 50 quid for the weekend so easily done then into the hotel. Checked in and straight out for a wander around.

I remembered after that that we got upgraded at the hotel. The room was nice enough, I don't know how much less nice the original one would have been though. The Novotel is better than the Premier Inn where we often stay, the lobby felt better, the bar looked relatively good. There was a table top gaming thing that the boys were immediately drawn to. However we wanted straight in and out again so that's what we did.

Here's our room before we messed it up.
