ā¬†ļøJohn Ings Daysh and Mary Dash Clarke

I have on loan at present, a book which features DAYSH family they came from Wickham. Hampshire to settle here in NZ

John Ings Daysh married Eliza Clark at St. Nicholas Church Wickham in 1832. They sailed on the Gertrude from Gravesend June 19 1841. So amongst the very early settlers to NZ> 6 children came with them. and a further 8 born in Hutt (area not far from Wellington as we know it today)

John died aged 97. (1902) He is buried in Masterton. Wairarapa His wife Eliza died aged 63. (1870) she is buried at Taita.

So many of our early settlers come down through this family... and many are buried here at Clareville Cemetery where I am researching into Early Settlers.. Gaskin from Marden. Kent. A Daysh married a Gaskin.. Rayner. Croad.Maybee.Southee.Harris.Sage.Knowles.Burling....

the list is endless... I wonder if any family still living around Wickham?

See I have my work cut out...its one way of learing the local history, if not the founding fathers of New Zealand..

It so interesting to learn where the early settlers came from.. I am thoroughly enjoying this project, from the Cemetery up!

I would love to write a book one day, on the buried up here at Clareville, it would make such interesting reading... if this book is anything to go by..
