Pixies review

Pixies review

Pixies were amazing last night at Brixton, could be one of the best gigs ever. We warmed up for the show with a few pints of Old Rosie in The Beehive (Brixton Academy gigs are about the only time I can persuade anyone go in a Wetherspoons) so missed the support, but got to our regular spot, front left.

Can’t remember what opening song was (see the earlier point about the cider), but I’m sure number two was something fast like “Crackity Jones”, then it was a continuing barrage of aceness, covering almost everything you could expect. This sounds like the kind of review you’d read in the Sun doesn’t it? Perhaps I should refer to them as “Frank and the gang” at some point, and say how they delivered what the fans wanted, and received a rapturous reception. Truth is I was a bit squiffy, drunk with delight. And cider. We did get “Monkey Gone To Heaven”, and “Velouria”, and I remember screaming along to “Tame” too, but after the fallout of my Cure review, I daren’t make too many assertions.

Update: someone just posted a setlist on popbitch, apparently it ws Winterlong, Nimrod’s Son, The Holiday Song, Here Comes Your Man, Vamos, In Heaven/Wave Of Mutilation (UK Surf), I Bleed, Monkey Gone To Heaven, Bone Machine, Velouria, Dead, No. 13 Baby, Subbacultcha, Gouge Away, Caribou, Hey, Cactus, River Euphrates, Debaser, Broken Face, Something Against You, Tame. Encore: Gigantic, Wave Of Mutilation, Into The White.

One annoying thing, our tickets turned out to be “Circle” tickets, which I guess means upstairs? We went in downstairs anyway, with a sneaky switcheroo, I hope we can do the same trick on Friday. Friday I will pay more attention, by not drinking so much. Ha.

Still not feeling too bright today, but still, see some pictures from the gig here and here, and some video that I will have a look at put up at some point…
