Blog2024 ≫ Singapore day three - Universal Studios

T2 was sick more in the night, hope he's well enough for Universal Studios today. This was basically the focus of the entire trip. Not looking forward to it myself though, it's a day of long queues that I really don't want to get to the front of.

Universal Studios was the focus of this trip, in that the boys wanted to go back to Florida, and we wanted to go somewhere different. Clare looked up where in the world there were USA style theme parks outside the USA and this is the one we picked. Universal Studios is a smaller version here on Sentosa in Singapore, quite compact, but still looking good and with enough for our needs.

Back at home there's free Octopus Energy today, can't do much about that. They're doing something nationally now though, there are two offers happening at once, we get the best one in Kent though I think.

We in Kent get the best deal I think. There are two deals happening at once, a national one that gives you free energy over and above what it estimates you would have used anyway, but our deal is absolutely free electricity at this time. I believe I might have mentioned it before...

Also got an alert there's a really good deal on that new Eastpak bag I bought.

Ate as much breakfast as I could, will probably skip lunch again. Waited in room for our TV to be fixed and then watched a bit of alien artifact evidence on the history channel to test it. And I must say I am convinced!

I got an alert from camelcamelcamel.com that I set up for the Eastpak Tranverz bag 1 that I bought just before the holiday. Pleased with it, and while the price really goes up and down a lot, I thought if it drops enough I'll have one. And it went down to sixty something. I didn't want to buy it while on holiday, but it's good to know it can go down to this price. Right now it's £87.60 for the black one but the triple denim one I got for £74.80 is now £110. Will keep an eye on it, eventually me feeling flush and it being a good price will coincide again.

And, the TV programme I watched in the hotel room was Ancient Aliens I think. I enjoyed it. Definite proof that ancient civilisations had secret alient technology. Wow there are a lot of episodes of that. This one had talk of King Solomon's temple being built with an alien laser, and an ancient South American leader having a magic mirror which sounds a lot like a mobile phone type device. Stop me, before I get in too deep! Back to the holiday!

Sick boy still a bit sick, so I've left him in the room and come down to the pool. He can phone me if he's sick again. I've got a lounger which overlooks the infinity type pool, which overlooks the South China Sea. It's kind of odd to be sat in these very nice surroundings but the view out there is over a busy shipping channel. Lots of big old rusty tankers out there. I guess it was something like that that leaked a few months ago. There were reports of an oil spill before we came out, but by looks as if it's all been cleaned up. We walked along one of the beaches we expected to be affected and it looks like it's been cleaned up, amazingly. I think I'll sit here for an hour. I'm in partial shade, It doesn't feel too hot.

And I took a picture specially to illustrate this spot.

I'm checking in on sick boy using the phone and will go back up in a bit. We have a plan for us to head to universal studios at lunch time, if he's well enough. We'll also keep in touch by phone, and we have a backup plan if all the phones fail of meeting at Mel's Diner at 3:00 p.m. We can't do actual phone calls out here, but we've got a data plan. We both bought esims so we have loads of data on a local network so we can use Signal for chatting. I still haven't had much of a bite from my friends. They must have spotted I'm abroad by now 2 I haven't told them exactly. Maybe they're just not interested. Not interested in playing my games. Anyway. I will wait until I do a run and then post that. I looked at Parkrun again because I thought I'd be doing it from here, from our hotel in Sentosa, but it says it's a 4 and 1/2 hour walk from here, so that can't be right. Then Clare tells me on Friday we leave here for Singapore mainland, so it's only a short walk to Parkrun from our hotel there. There is a running / jogging route near the hotel here, a path that goes about 2 and 1/2k, but it looked to be partly closed yesterday. There's a gym here with lots of running machines, but I've not seen anyone on them yet. No one is using the swim up bar in the hotel. It is the only bar here. Actually it's hardly manned, if it's even open now. They don't mind you bringing in drinks from the 7-Eleven so that's what everyone's doing. It's not cheap, but it's cheaper than it would be at that bar. The 7-Eleven only seems expensive because it's mostly stocked with imported brands to appeal to foreign visitors, so they seem to be a lot of special Korean products. I bought a Korean drink that was quite expensive. They don't seem to have a lot of local produce though, everything is imported here. Cheaper still are the vending machines in the hotel, strangely. They have soft drinks and snacks including pot noodles.

T2 too poorly for Universal Studios, real shame. Clare and T1 went and we joined them about 2pm. I swam a few times while waiting for him to be ok, then we headed down. Struggled to walk there without Clare. The Google maps are all wrong. Some kind Australians gave us spare fast passes which the boys used for two goes on Battlestar Galactica and then we all went in Shrek 4d. The boys bought some Sesame Street merch. The Lego shop nearby was good, they had a huge model of Sentosa. Then T2 and I came back. He was too poorly even to enjoy Jurassic Park there, though he put a brave face on for a picture and to go on a couple of rides. The others back now, we'll have dinner in the hotel, so T2 can come back when he's ready easily.

Dinner could be good, the best restaurants are in hotels and Native Kitchen is one of the only ones doing local dishes. See how we get on...

Lego Sentosa, Singapore

Dinner was quite good, and we got a 10% discount for being guests of the hotel. Native Kitchen is the name of the restaurant in our hotel. T2 still did not eat anything this evening. I had spaghetti aglio olio, though there would have been another choice for me, which Clare had, the vegetarian biryani. T2 had the big burger and said it was the best burger he'd ever had, nice!

  2. Had an extra bit here that makes no sense to me now "Hello lost where I am". I wasn't lost when I was dictating this I'm sure I was sat by the pool, must have been saying something like "oh, look where I am!!".
