Blog2023 ≫ Holiday 2023 - birthdays

Our holiday this year started with a day off for birthdays. I did much better for presents than Clare did. I didn't think we would buy each other much, I definitely didn't want or expect anything. She got mostly books and a massage in the spa on our forthcoming Center Parcs trip. I got some vinyly by Blur, Radiohead, and Belle And Sebastian and a theatre trip to London. We're going to see The Mousetrap soon. We had been talking about it.

I got some vinyl drinks coasters that T1 chose and bought with his own money too. And, on the morning of our birthday (you will remember Clare and I share a birthday) the boys not only brought us a cup of tea in bed, they brought some chocolates that they had snuck out to the shops to buy early in the morning, while we were still sleeping.

As an extra birthday present to myself (er, I should have been looking for extra gifts for Clare shouldn't I?) I got some new soundcore noise cancelling headphones1. I've never had noise cancelling before. It's quite good. I did not really need these, but as well as being a birthday it was a pay day treat too.

On the birthday day itself Clare mostly stayed in to pack for our holiday, and I went out with the boys to buy new swimming trunks and trainers. We went for lunch, and I forgot my rule of never letting them choose where we go for lunch. I could not persuade them to go to Dr Legumes or anywhere nice, they were set on Costa and it was fairly dreadful. They like it well enough. We were not eating much anyway as we were off out for dinner later.

We went to the Waterfront in Hythe for dinner. It's nice, thought my vegan food was only so so really, it's a fairly plain vege burger. I enjoyed it, and everyone else enoyed theirs too. We walked there along the seafront and treated ourself to a taxi back after. Up early in the morning for the start of holidays proper!

See the view from our table. Not the very best seats in the house, but not bad.
