Blog ā‰« 2021 ā‰« Runuary day fourteen

Another dark and miserable runuary morning, so much so I didn't fancy going out in it. So half an hour's lie in, then breakfast, then work, and I braved it at lunchtime. Actually went out for a run in my coat for the first time, that light yellow running jacket is fine for visibility but it does nothing for the weather. I wore my black North Face one, it's breathable and it has big vents and it all went find. Usual route, round Hythe and back, except that when I got to Princes Parade the weather was blowing hard into my face, so cut back along the canal path. There the problem was just many deep puddles, so right now my running shoes are still soaked.

Just looked and this day last year my pace was 4'51/K, today it was 4'47/K. So I've compared myself twice now and found myself faster, it's time to stop, I think I've proved how much fitter I am.

I've put the shoes in a pillowcase in the tumble dryer. Just putting them on the radiator wasn't going to cut it, they'd not be dry in time to get soaked again tomorrow. I will go rescue them now, finish them off on the radiator, and I might have time for a Better Call Saul while Clare is in the bath. Then we will start the last series of Spiral.

I went through a spell of mentioning the weather every day recently didn't I? And it stopped, I must have killed off my automatic weather scraper, and I don't know where it's gone. Maybe it was only on my old work computer. It might snow tonight, there is 100% chance of precipitation (it's precipitating down again now) and it's going to be minus two degrees over night. I bet it doesn't settle, but it could be tricky exercising tomorrow.

As I mentioned, twenty-five years ago today a Lush gig at the university in Guildford. I think it was free, a bit of a run of indie bands playing there on a Sunday night.
