Blog2019 ≫ Parkrun excuse of the week

Lovely early evening in the Inn Doors on Friday, nice to have it back again after a two week break. A very hard walk back from the pub because of the strong winds.

Not back too late, so had tea and then let thing one stay up a bit later to watch Bake Off Extra Slice.

Saturday morning's parkrun was looking like a windy one, though was a bit calmer than the day before. I biked there and was there early but still somehow got a bad starting position. I'm getting a bit competitive about this now, there are lots of people who push to the front for the start but then just get overtaken. They should have authorised starting positions based on past performance I think. Anyway, after breaking free of the pack I had a good run. It was windy and did make it a bit tricky, the wind never seemed to be behind me, only in my face. Still a good time of 21'411, about twenty seconds off my target. Best position ever of 16, but this is because some of the faster people were resting for the Folkestone half marathon today I think.

It was a proper triathlon for me, as after biking home we went swimming. I came up with a new plan of trading widths of the pool for minutes on the Nintendo Switch, which worked well up to a point. Thing one started freaking out that he had to swim further than thing two to earn minutes and stopped swimming, so number two son earned a lot more computer time for the day. Will try this again though, we definitely did a lot more swimming and a lot less messing about.

After lunch to Market Square for lunch. A new one for us, a new venture from the Luben people. It feels like a nice place and the food looks really impressive, very colourful, but mine didn't really taste of much. Maybe my tastebuds were just a bit off, I do have a hint of a cold. Think we will try it again.

I walked back and popped in the Inn Doors again. I was the only person there for a while, September is a hard month for pubs apparently.

When I came in, Clare was getting ready to head out, for a night at The Ship with her dad and brother and that crowd. I made a fantastic curry, with a spice tailer spice kit2. These are awesome but normally a bit expensive; Sainsbury must be having a clear out they were all half price.

I watched a film Julieta3 that was in the "euro crime" slot on BBC4, but it was not a crime. It was good, but a bit sad really.

Bad weather today, so shame for the run. We also sacked off junior parkrun too. It is very windy, raining, and would be slippery underfoot. Maybe back to it next week, we're going to do a 2km challenge on the treadmill instead. Then I must find some more exercise time for myself later.

UPDATE: actually just spotted I was only twelve seconds off my personal best for the parkrun, so without that wind it would have been good. Then my PB is still five seconds off Jules' best time from about five years, which I definitely have my eyes on...
