Blog2019 ≫ Birthday weekender: the journey

Bit of a crap journey down, very heavy traffic and a couple of accidents, though we were not close to them. Traffic was monstrous in both directions on the M25. We stopped at Cobham for a break, were hoping to get a bit further but I needed the loo. Took us over four hours in the end to get to Portsmouth. We were heading straight to Gunwharf to meet Mum and Dad at Zizzi. Couldn't get in to Gunwharf parking, nor the overflow, but luckily found some good street parking on Queen Street eventually. We had left Mum and Dad so long hanging around that they'd done unexpected shopping and Dad had bought some fab Bose bone induction bluetooth sunglasses, very impressive.

We had a super lunch in Zizzi and received more cards gifts including an unexpected and brilliant Google Home Hub of which more later. Lovely lunch, glad we got a table to easily as Gunwharf was absolutely heaving for some reason.

I thought I'd be hanging around more in Gunwharf while Clare shopped, I thought I would shop a bit and then maybe go in a cafe. But a) I didn't want anything and b) I thought I should show Mum and Dad back to where our car was. They were kindly looking after the boys for the rest of the day so we didn't have to drag them round shops and we could go to the pub and have an evening. A bit more walking for me taking them back to Queen Street, then that was my hanging around and not going in a pub time used up. Clare called to say she really had phone battery problems, we had no battery packs and her phone was dying. I remembered when I was on the pub crawl here last time that the Dolphin had USB sockets at each table so perfect, we go there, she can charge the phone, and the pubbing has started!
