Blog2016 ≫ Good birthday weekend for Number two son

Had Friday off so we could head off to Mum and Dad's right after school. Do a few jobs in the morning then be ready to pick Number one son up and head straight off. Was going to take only the afternoon but thought I'd extend it to the morning too. Meant Clare could make a birthday cake while I took Number two son to mini movers. Mini movers was good, the cake was going well up to a point:

She has no idea how it happened, was just applying the final finishing touches, just one more Smartie, and BAM it's suddenly on the floor. Mum made a new cake and Clare and Number one son decorated when we got to their house...

I dragged Number two son round B&Q on Friday morning too, and to the tip, all the best places... our B&Q is closing down of course, everything in there is genuinely reduced. Prices are still not that favourable compared to other local rivals though. I nearly bought some Really Useful boxes, they looked a good deal, but they were incorrectly priced and came up more expensive at the till. I'll go back another day when they've fixed that. Just checked though and it's a good price even at the wrong price, one 84l box is nearly 20 quid here1 and at B&Q it came with another six inside it. I'll go back today! I bought a torch a small aluminium maglite copy for 3. It's not very good but it did come with batteries, handy. I would have bought more to tuck about the place, but it was the last one. All their torches are 20% off B&Q prices at the moment. Everything is at leat 10% off, hope there will be more reductions as it gets closer to close down.

Went to the tip too, some small broken electrical recycling. I'm one step further back from hoarders: buried alive, but it's not far enough back, still more to do. Those really useful boxes may help, get some stuff sorted and in the loft, so it's not just piled up.

Thought I'd have time to do more little jobs on Friday morning but the time ran away with us. Soon it was time to pick number one son up and head off. I stocked up with wine at Waitrose, then tried to drop the car off near the school; plan was to get a good spot then all walk down to collect him and just cruise straight off. Didn't work out as it was raining and I was late, so all slots near the school taken. I had to go home, tell Clare and Number two son to get in the car asap and then run up and down the hill with number one son. He still had his "be safe be seen" flashing leds on. We eventually got going.

Not a great drive, rainig so visibility bad on the M20. We saw an accident towards the top of the motorway, we got there before the police or anything, no-one hurt afaik. A hire van had spun out and was blocking two lanes, but we squeezed past on the hard shoulder. A crappy drive all the way really because of the rain. We listened to some audiobooks.

Very pleased to get there and to find they already had the wine open. Kez and Jack came up too and we all had an excellent chilli that Mum has been threatening to make for a while, it's mostly chilli flavoured mixed beans with peppers, vege sausages, and chipotle paste. Really good, everyone loved it.

Got work to do will report more later.
