Dear Paul, Sonny mahon is not Clare's great grandfather. He is the oldest brother of her grandfather "Christie"; or if you like her father's uncle. He lived in Galway all his life, as did his sisters Mamie and Kathleen. His brother "Christie" moved to Dublin and his sister Rita moved to Sligo (as wife to Tom McEvilly).Another sister, Della, emigrated to the USA. That family grew up in Mahon's hotel in Galway and were a prominent Galway family. A tad neurotic however, or as they say to-day, dysfunctional!Clare's grandfather was probably the sanest one.
