To London for a day of fun. 10am train and got a table, nice. T2 got a free steak bake in Greggs, or rather wife had got one from some work perks thing and he claimed it. Then straight to Picadilly Circus, and honestly, it's like Picadilly Circus round there. Up Regent Street but it was too early for the shoe shop wife was looking for to be open. We wandered round for a bit and worked out where we'd go next. Then, as luck would have it, there is a Belstaff shop right next door to her shoe shop there, so I went in just to try on a jacket I'd had my eye for about a year. Just to try it on, not to buy it. Bought new shoes for wife, then straight back into Belstaff and bought the jacket. I'm not normally this extravagant or spontaneous. If looking at the same jacket every day for a year can be considered spontaneous. We hadn't even been in the pub at this point.
Then to Whole Foods for some delicious weigh-and-pay lunch, I had Korean mushrooms, paprika potatoes, and some pepper and fennel salad. Then to The Crystal Maze! Off the TV!
We had been thinking of doing The Crystal Maze for years, and finally did. YOu have to be in a team of eight, so we were paired up with people we didn't know but it was fine, they were lovely. It's a lot like the TV, with an eccentric host taking you round, it's not at all like the self guided computer based one we did decades ago in Southampton. The zones and rooms are just like the TV, and one of the activities was actually used on the TV show, supposedly. I think our host told us a lot of things we'd like to hear... We all won crystals, no-one got locked in (though it was close), and there's a real crystal dome at the end with the gold and silver tickets, but they clearly do not actually count them. We got a souvenir crystal to take home, it is great, and one photo.
After to pubs. First The Glassblower, which was nice, and near, and looked about right, but gah it was a Greene King. So I just about choked down the beer but I didn't love it. Everyone else happy playing cards, so it was a nice place to sit. Then on to The Queens Head at Kings Cross which is brilliant, brilliant beer and we played Trivial Pursuits. Then to Mildreds for an all vegan diner. T2 and I did the sharing menu and it was delicious, lots of dips and things for starter and then curries for the main. Wife and T1 both had burgers and they were good too.
A super day. Fast train and taxi home and then more Australian Ghosts on TV. I snoozed during one that I must watch again.
