Blog2026 ≫ Oh yeah it's the start of the Summer

Summer holidays have sort of started. Last full day of school for the boys today, and tomorrow is a half day, which means T1 doesn't go in at all as he has no lessons in the afternoon so Summer starts after school today for him. T2 is looking forward to it being a tag day, going down town at lunch with some money. I've upgraded his bank account and put one of my preloaded cards on his phone so he can buy stuff on it at last, he's pleased with this too. How much will go on junk and how much on actual lunch though? So this is the real start of the holidays, there are no packed lunches to make today. And, while I still have to set an early alarm to go to London tomorrow, I can cancel my regular 6:45 get up to get them up for school alarm! An extra hour in bed possibly for the next six or seven weeks?

Another thing about it being officially the start of the summer, I paid off the summer holiday yesterday. We're going! I had a very healthy looking current account for a while, but now I've paid for this year's holiday, and put the money I'd set aside for next years holiday into the stonks (bought the dip, actually seemed to have worked!) it is depleted. But still in the black, and it's pay day in two days. Is there enough to buy myself that jacket as a birthday present..? Probably not after I've bought myself new pants and socks and a sun hat for the holiday.

I'm writing less here I know. It's still very warm, but is it that I'm doing less in the heat, or just can be bothered to write less? Work is a bit quiet too, there is a code freeze again this week. Can't really get a lot done as we can't publish it, and if we do work without publishing it it stacks up, causes conflicts, will be difficult to eventually publish. So, planning, documenting, small changes to systems that are more or less excluded from the code freeze.

Football tonight, England Argentina. Haven't thought or spoken about much apart from the heat and the football for a few weeks. I am not a very footbally guy but like the internationals, and wife does too, and friends speak of little else, so I have to get into it. Watched last night's, I was supporting France, they lost. Spain look very hard to beat, particularly as they can't seem to stay on their feet. If they eventually get caught out for this diving and have someone sent off they'll be in trouble.

The heat started to feel worse yesterday. I have been enjoying it, but yesterday I was even feeling sticky down in my cool basement. My study / office is protected from extremes of weather, but even that got uncomfortable.

Sunny and a moderate breeze, 16 - 25℃.
