Not an unproductive day, following a fairly productive week! Work, busy, but it was a super short week because of Radiohead. We are still getting over that, was such a good gig, and we're getting to relive it every time someone asks about it. Work quite hard at the moment, because of the pre-christmas code freeze making everything a bit harder than it needs to be. But getting there. Yesterday I put the finishing touches to a work advent calendar, I hope that is going to be good and popular. A new little feature, some micro-documentation hopefully teaching people something new each day. Hoping it gets passed around and I get recognised in other departments, I like that.
Yesterday was going to work late and just pop along to the Potting Shed for the last couple of hours, but then a friend called and said do I fancy going to The Britannia instead? I did not, but I did want to see him, so left work just after five and went to meet him for a pint there, then walked on to The Potting Shed for about seven. Had a few pints with other friends and got a Chinese on the way home. Tofu in black bean sauce with vegan chicken rice noodles, delicious.
Today, started lazily enough by sacking off parkrun. I had already decided this, still have the last traces of this lurgy. So slept in until nine, then got up for coffee and start lining up some jobs for the day. Then wife suddenly remembered she had a hair appointment, so had to drive her in to Hythe. Then guilted myself into a run on the treadmill, first one of the year surely, then starting on the jobs, then take the boys to meet her for their haircuts. So three-quarters of the family have had a hair cut today, just not me. Then we have all done some work, tidying and cleaning. I have taken radiators off to clean behind them, as now the heating is on we think it is heating up dust behind the rads and making everyone sneeze. Then in a fit of enthusiasm we rearranged T1's bedroom, and we think we have made more space out of nothing, pleased with that. T2 though, we're still trying to get him to clear enough space so we can get in the room and look round.
Wife and T1 are going out tonight for a birthday, but T2 and I are staying in. I will be driving them there and picking them up so a sensible healthy Saturday of not drinking. I have got an actual feast for tea and we'll watch Strictly Come Dancing I think.
Pay day in five days, premium bonds prize day in six, and I've got a good feeling about it. Well six days in theory, that's a Saturday, so it won't be until the Monday.
Gigging history, saw Cooper Temple Clause for the first time twenty-five years ago today. I really liked them for a bit! I saw the lineup for Portsmouth Victorious festival 2026 in the week, and a) it looks a bit crap, but b) they do have some of the older bands playing there as they always do. I saw a band called The Clause and I wondered if it was Cooper Temple Clause, still going but having had a disagreement about ownership of the name or something. I still wonder that I will look it up 1. Still don't think I will go to Victorious though.
Light rain and a moderate breeze, 3 - 11℃.
Estimated 2878 cups of coffee ☕️ from my espresso machine 2 probably comes to £0.89 per cup (including 3+ years supply of the actual coffee ☕️ beans and now servicing 2 but not the electricity).
