Blog2025 ≫ Happy new leak

Happy new year, happy new home emergency disaster. There was dripping in the dining room, coming from above the door. The weather has been mental so thought it could be that, but can see nothing outside, and nothing in the rooms above. There's a bedroom and bathroom above, but no damp there. I even took the bath panel off but all dry under there. I did establish that is a potential storage space in future, so that's something.

We have a "home emergency" thing included in our insurance but it hasn't been that helpful. It's bare bones, if there's a leak it covers call out and repair, but it doesn't cover "trace and access" which is things like taking down the ceiling or lifting up floorboards. We have to sort that and claim it back on the insurance. The insurance ball is rolling and there is a plumber on the way in the morning.

Went for a run also. Yay dryanuary runuary etc. Not my fastest 1st January run, not my slowest, bang in the middle! Expect runuary results like this every day for the rest of the month.

These are my pace times for this day in previous years, this is the time per kilometre. I've run 5km on the first of January for seven years in a row now.

I assumed parkrun would be cancelled today, but I had to get up and go at this time anyway. The weather has been crazy overnight, and it's still very windy. Had to give the cat its medicine. It had been puked again so had to clean that up, lovely. Then just went for a run up and down Cheriton High Street. Found out when I got back that parkrun was on as normal. Will be back there on Saturday.

Yesterday I went out to the pub in the afternoon. A bit of a mix up with two friends thinking the other had told them the Inn Doors was closed, so we went first to The Three Mariners in Hythe, then to the Inn Doors next when we had established it was open until 4pm. Then home, to eat our fairly beige tea, play games, watch The Last Leg and Jools Holland on TV, drink champagne, and then bed.

Hope the rest of 2025 is better than today.

58Kph winds and heavy rain, 4 - 11℃.

5k: Five kilometres, just over three miles in old money.

dryanuary: Not drinking for the month of January.

runuary: Running probably 5k every day for all of January.
