Blog2024 ≫ Runuary day 27

The omens were all good. I woke up early, I got there on time, even the toilets were open. I did not have to start at the back of the pack. It was very busy and it did feel like it took me a while to battle through the crowd even from where I was. But I pretty much smashed it, best time this best time this runuary, best average pace since Rome Parkrun in fact back in August 2022.

The text message is here with an official parkrun time of 23'32 for the 5km, but no email yet. I think I was in 60th position. This was a good one but I think I had more in the tank.

Times per km for this day in previous weeks:

date 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024
26/01 5'17 4'53 4'42 5'33 5'25 5'14
27/01 12'47 4'45 5'20 5'46 5'00 4'39

I cannot spot a pattern here. OK, I have run every day for four weeks now, and I haven't had an alcoholic drink for four weeks. Also I had an early night. I was wearing my red pants today, I think it must be the lucky red pants that did it.

Walking to Sandgate now for a cheeky pre-new-car mini-lunch. Coffee and cake.

Sunny intervals and a gentle breeze, 4 - 7℃.

Guessing 1532 cups of coffee from my espresso machine1 probably comes to £1.11 a cup (including actual coffee and now servicing1 so not the 'leccy).

Oh yeah I still got to change the water filter in that machine. And I surely have enough stats now from Home Assistant to work out what the coffee might be costing me in terms of electricity. And I can estimate better than "two cups a day" as I have stats on how often the machine gets used in there somewhere...

5k: Five kilometres, about three miles to you.

runuary: Running at least 5k every day for all of January.
