Blog2023 ≫ Too busy

Busy busy busy with work, but in a good way, winding down for christmas.

Went to London yesterday, working in the office in the morning, then out for our christmas lunch. Was very cold and clear as I set out. Look you can see Venus:

In the morning I had to do a bit of a presentation for our directors. This was a last minute thing, and my fault really. I complained about the event last week saying it was nothing to do with us, so this event was organised to celebrate our team, but a few of us had to prepare a presentation for it. We worked on it all morning and it seemed to go well.

We went to Cote Brasserie in Barbican and it was good. My vegan mushroom bourgignon was way too convincingly meat though. Think I was the only one drinking out of our whole table, I threw caution to the wind and ordered a glass of wine. A nice meal all told, and then we were done for the day.

One person had been going on about a christmas lights walk, so we all agreed to do that after the meal. We had to get the tube to Bond Street to start it. By the time we'd walked as far as Marble Arch we had lost half the party. I don't think they were deliberately trying to lose the others. I thought I would be the one to accidentally slope off and go to the pub. While we were waiting for them to find us at Marble Arch I started sowing the seed about going to a pub. I found a good looking pub with real ale nearby, and while people were still umm-ing and ah-ing I said "I'll go and check out the pub", and I did. And it was alright, The Carpenters Arms. The others came along eventually, and all fussed about buying their own drinks but I bought a round to compensate for hijacking the evening. Then most of the party left, so there were just three of us to have a couple more pints, and then home. It was enjoyable, I could have done without the walk though, which is not like me.

I got a train back about half eight, not late really. I walked back through Sandgate, leaving the car at the station.

Today, been busy busy busy. Went back to pick up the car and get a few bits from Tesco, but most of the day worked on auditing and tidying and rebuilding our dashboards at work. Well I am finding it interesting. More of this tomorrow, then I am done for the christmas break. I bet other people start disappearing throughout the day, but I'll be there until five.

There was two hours of free energy from Octopus1, but no-one was here to make use of it. I was not quite prepared to turn devices on remotely.

We were at The Pogues nineteen years ago today in 2004. This was a bit of a christmas tradition at Brixton Academy. Clare was talking with work friends about gigs and things and this was the one they were most impressed she had been to.

Clare is out tonight for another christmas meal and I'm picking them up later. The boys and I are watching the new Famous Five on TV, and it's quite good. A bit Indiana Jones / Davinci Code though which I don't remember from the books...

Light rain and a fresh breeze, 7 - 12℃.
