Blog2023 ≫ Sandgate Hotel yesterday a success

Went for lunch at the Sandgate Hotel for the first time yesterday. There's an Italian restaurant taken over, the guy who has the wine shop in Hythe. It's a great spot, looking out to sea, and of course even greater as we can walk to it. Yesterday we did not walk as the weather was dire and we were going onwards straight after, so could not make use of the wine list. Ordered food though, two pastas, one pizza, and then what have you got for me? Nothing vegan on the menu. Don't worry we have vegans who work here we can make it all vegan. I went for the arancini as a starter and arrabiata for the main. The arancini doesn't look vegan, can you check? Yeah definitely vegan. Cut into it, it looks, smells, and tastes cheesy. Sorry could you just check one more time this is the vegan one? Oh yeah, actually the chef misunderstood, this is not vegan at all!

Apart from that, all good. They replaced the arancini with some bruschetta, and then the arrabiata was tasty, Clare got half way through her amatriciana and then swapped with T1's pizza so they had half each, the pizza particularly good. T2 scoffed his amatriciana. Clare had a go at the wine which was good, I had a choice of two low alcohol beers, both made locally, so I had a Dr Jeckyl's pale ale.

Pleased with that and we will go again, though it came to £100 for lunch.
