Blog2023 ≫ Crazy hot day again here

Up early for T2 to do the Shepway Test, the extra version of the Kent Test (AKA the Eleven Plus) that would qualify him for a place at The Harvey Grammar school. Plan was to drop him off, do parkrun, and collect him again. However with also being on call I couldn't leave the car in the right place to have the laptop close enough that I could get away from the run if needed. So I chucked parkrun in for another week.

He came out of the test quite happy and confident, we'll see. As a reward he got to choose where we went for dinner, and he chose Zizzi, so we headed into Canterbury. Heading away from the coast, on perhaps the hottest most beach appropriate day of the year... It was very hot and we had a nice time. I had a cocktail with my pizza, a passion fruit Aperol Spritz, very nice and refrshing, cheers. We also went for a walk in the park, and to an ice cream cafe type place next to Canterbury Cathedral, because I couldn't remember where the coffee place I wanted to go in was. Spotted it as soon as we came out again, but I enjoyed my vegan raspberry shake anyway.

I did a tiny bit of shopping while I was out, I saw Dock & Bay quick dry travel towels that a few friends had mentioned, so treated myself to one. It's probably a bit of an online influecer gimmick, but the guy in the shop was also a big fan of them. The guy trying to sell it to me... Anyway will be good for holiday and travels, plus if I head down to the beach.

Also one more treat for me, I bought a new coffee cup, the Chilly's version of the awful Frank Green one I have been persevering with. Will see if it's any better. It's the same nice size and shap to drink from, will it be any less leaky? Will it keep the coffee warm? Unlikely...

What a day to tell the kids we're going to Marrakech.

Went for a walk along PRinces Parade when we got back. It's still so hot it's hazy out there. Strangely so, a fog, or a smog, perhaps caused by the masses of people and cars that are here. I've not seen the beach this busy this far away from Folkestone I don't think. What must it be like down at Sunny Sands and the Harbour Arm?

Clare is out at the Harbour Arm tonight with her bro. I am in, might do a little work, still exorcising this idea I have. This is the alerting idea, where I can say "this should alert, but let's see if it goes away" and "let's not alert again because we already alerted"."I realise I need to expand it slightly and check four periods and not three, so that we don't get rogue "this seems to have stopped now" when we never had a "something is going wrong" before it. It will probably never become clear, not sure I can publish it here, it is a work thing.

Guessing 1254 cups of coffee from my espresso machine1 prob'ly comes to £1.22 a cup (including actual coffee and now servicing1 but not the 'leccy).
