Blog2023 ≫ Long walk to beer

Had a day off yesterday, and did quite a long walk to Rye. Well that would be a very long walk, nearly the length of a marathon I think, and it was the original plan. We amended it to have more time in the pub and less exhaustion, so we got the train to Ashford, changed for Appledore and walked from there. So only about 18km (11 miles in old money).

It drizzled most of the way there, but most of the wetness came from walking through wet grass. I had cold wet feet most of the day, my North Face walking boots are just not waterproof. Still a good time and feels like an achievement.

We went straight to The Waterworks, Rye's micropub. Great range of beers and ciders in there. We worked our way through the beers, all local, three that they brew themselves.

Then thought we should give another pub a chance so walked to The Ypres Castle, but it's not as good so we went back to The Waterworks. Then for a curry, and then trains and a taxi home again. Exhausting fun.

And another day off today what shall we do with it?

I know what we'll do with it we'll drive up to Greenwich at lunchtime then be in London for two days! But I don't like to announce these things in advance, so I'll reveal this on our return. If you're reading this then we're already home again.

First I have to go to the post office with a "Stitch Fix" clothing return for Clare.

September already. Today in 2001 I was seeing The Darkness at Kings Cross Water Rats.
