Blog2023 ≫ London weekender: Saturday morning boat trip

On with the dictation:

Next morning we got up and had a hotel breakfast, and I thought it was pretty nice. They had veggie sausages among the usual suspects, and the others had a bit of bacon and sausage and stuff as well. The coffee wasn't good, but I'd spied a coffee place around the corner that wanted to go to. So while they were packing up after breakfast, I was ready first1 so I went out. Had a walk around the market there, and interesting line in Nazi memorabilia, but I didn't see any comics which is what I think I bought last time we were there. Then I walked to Grind which is a coffee place I've been wanting to try because it's been recommended my friends. It was OK, better than the hotel coffee. Then a bit of a walk through Greenwich to the boat. We got the clipper from Greenwich straight up to Embankment. Well not straight up because there were lots of stops along the way because it's a normal commuter type service, so it stopped at Tower Hill and some other places, and then it stopped where we wanted. It's a really nice way to travel! We had a table to start with, and then T2 and I moved to outside, I think so he could get a bit of fresh air. He didn't quite have his sea legs, but that was good.

I'll cut back in here, interrupt myself, to say we saw the Horrible Histories boat go past, that was probably the last time we got a boat here. It's that two person show about the history of the Thames. We also saw some fast RIBs racing along, and I think we quite fancy that for next time.

Lovely day. Nice to feel the wind blowing and being on the water and the lovely alternative view of London you get from being down at the water level..

I already wrote up what a bust the shopping was. I think that's the first thing we went to from the boat, straight into Covent Garden, so that's me done, back with more later.

Here's Grind coffee. You can tell here I just went straight out with no shower.

I also missed out on Parkrun. Initially thought I could do one while I was up there, then realised how far Greenwich parkrun was from where we were. Then after I'd written it all of I thought that distance probably wasn't further than from our house to Folkestone parkrun, and then I could easily have jumped on a bus or something. Next time I'll do a London parkrun again.

Didn't have much for dinner today as I'd had a massive lunch of leftover takeaway, so only a bagel for tea. Don't want to sit on the keyboard for much more of the day, so time for a herbal tea and then bed.

Me looking scruffy and unwashed in Grind coffee

Estimated 1062 cups of coffee from my espresso machine2 probably comes to £1.32 a cup (including actual coffee and now servicing2 but not the 'leccy).
