Blog2023 ≫ Oh one more thing and it is a gas

I emailed Octopus to see why my energy bills only mentioned electricity and not gas? Is it connected with my bills being lower than all my friends? Yeah turns out it does:

I am sorry for the delay with your gas bills. Looking into your account I can see your gas meter is smartly connected, though the initial reading was submitted as 99999.0 instead of 0 which it should have been. As the reading was set to 99999.0 smart meter reads could not come through as they are lower than this reading.

I have now corrected the initial reading and issued your gas bill. Your next gas bill will arrive on time.

So does this mean I have to catch up on all my gas bills since the smart meter was fitted in one go? Oh wait I have a new email:

Your new balance: £299.03

This does explain why we were so much in credit, why the credits we've been making are more than the money they've been taking out. We're still in credit though and all is good. I think my energy graph there is still right. Will it look different tomorrow though?
