Blog2023 ≫ Febrewery 8/4

That's eight pubs, from four days. Here we go!

Started the day by volunteering at Folkestone Parkrun, nice to speak to so many runners, and it all went smoothly. I was scanning barcodes, and I'll do it again. That was only my sixth time, I need twenty-five to get a t-shirt. Yes they have gamed that too, and I'm in! Disappointingly my times volunteering at junior parkrun in Dover did not seem to count.

When I got back, to Canterbury. We used the Tesco Gift Card1 I just bought to get 20% straight off our Pizza Express bill. Bought a seventy quid card in the morning for £56, used it at lunch where it covered our bill to within a few pence, nice. Canterbury Pizza Express is not as still not good as others. If you get a good table you're looking right onto the river, that's nice, but we were not. Food was ok, my Padana Romana pizza was a bit soggy though, maybe that's the vegan toppings. Still everyone liked it.

Next to the Apple store to look at a watch for Clare. This was meant to be her christmas present but she wants to keep it in the wood until her Fitbit actually gives up the ghost, then maybe another fitbit or maybe the apple watch, choose at the time. They do look good. The boys are keen but I think not.

Next they went to the cinema and I went to pubs. First The Lady Luck for a pint of Hophead. Not as much choice of ale as I'd like but that one was good. It looks good in there for music and food, and they have a kids menu and a free to play video game machine so I think we'll all go there soon. Next my plan was to go to the Thomas Tallis near the cinema but I had some extra time still so headed to The Unicorn, one I had very much enjoyed before. Passed a new place on the way. New to me anyway though has been there four years. It's called Pegasus, turns out there is some connection with The Unicorn. It was brilliant in there, a lot like the West Street Ale House, so a more modern take on the micropub. I had a half in here, there was a lot to choose from. I'm particularly inclined to like this as the barman complimented me on my new shirt, where did I get it from? See, Clare is wrong, it is a fine shirt.

After Pegasus, to the Unicorn where I had one really good pint and watched the second half of Ireland Wales rugby. Looked a high scoring game when I got in there but don't think another point was scored in the second half. The Unicorn is also a great pub.

Finally heading back towards the cinema and I did go in the Thomas Tallis, only for a one third pint. That is a good measure if you have not got time for a session. It was an Imperial Stout which is good to drink from a small glass anyway. I was listening in on a neighbouring conversation some guys talking about gigs they have lined up, they definitely mentioned the Boo Radleys but I'm sure they said The Dandy Warhols too, I must investigate.

I got an M&S ready meal for my tea, no-one else was hungry enough, and we watched Modern Family and then Search Party.

Today looks like a beautiful day, I should be out running, but instead I'm writing this and doing a few jobs while Clare is at pump. Then later a walk into Hythe...

My Febrewery list so far:

  1. The Butt Of Sherry, Hythe.
  2. The Bell, Hythe.
  3. The Clarendon, Sandgate.
  4. The Famous Ship Inn, Sandgate.
  5. The Lady Luck, Canterbury.
  6. The Pegasus, Canterbury.
  7. The Unicorn, Canterbury.
  8. The Thomas Tallis, Canterbury.

It still feels odd to have a list with no Inn Doors on it but I think those days are now gone.
