I ran, I ran so far away. Actually not so far away, but I did run the wrong way. I ran up Hospital Hill, sort of East when the wind is coming from the West, but sort of sheltered. So uphill, hard work, and no benefit of the wind at my back. Then around Sandgate and back along the seafront with the wind blowing into my face. Still another 5km done, nearly half way there.
I had a coffee disaster, through overconfidence. I experimented with the single wall filter, I thought I'm a pro now and I can handle it. It made a weird watery coffee that I poured away. Back to the dual wall filter and all is good again. I have been trying to get to the 2:1 ratio but expert Tim found a thing for me that says between 2:1 and 3:1 is normal for espresso so I'm sticking with that.

2023-01-13 | 17 | 8 | 20 | 46 | 20 | Good crema again, good coffee. But should I tweak the timer, and if so how?? |
2023-01-13 | 17 | 8 | 16 | 48 | 20 | Good crema, back to the safety of the dual wall filter. |
2023-01-13 | 17 | 8 | 16 | 53 | 15 | Disaster, single wall filter, weak looking coffee no crema, poured away. |
2023-01-12 | 17 | 8 | 17 | 46 | 23 | Ratio 2.7:1 and Tim says between 2 and 3 is actually ok for espresso so I'm ok. |
2023-01-11 | 16 | 8 | 17 | 45 | 23 | Coffee in a hurry on the way to work. |
2023-01-10 | 16 | 8 | 17.5 | 45 | 22 | No razor again. Still good, but still not 2:1 ratio. |
2023-01-10 | 14 | 8 | 17 | 47 | 24 | No razor again. Still good, but still not 2:1 ratio. |
2023-01-09 | 14 | 8.5 | 18.5 | 49 | 24 | Did not use the "razor" to scrape off excess coffee, in case I'm losing coffee grounds unneccessarily. Not much difference. |
2023-01-08 | 14 | 8.5 | 16.5 | 47 | 25 | Slight waste of coffee grounds. What is affecting the express time? |
2023-01-07 | 14 | 8 | 16.2 | 48 | 22 | No waste coffee, another lungo. |
2023-01-06 | 13 | 8 | 29 | No waste coffee, but forgot to weigh, complete waste of time. Maybe a little sour, go back to yesterday's settings. | ||
2023-01-05 | 14 | 9 | 17.0 | 51.0 | 27 | Tweaked everything. Actually 3:1 ratio another lungo. Very good! More changes tomorrow. |
2023-01-05 | 15 | 9.5 | 17.0 | 44.0 | 22 | Reset the machine, so back to defaults. Too much grinding. |
2023-01-04 | 15 | 7 | 14.6 | 58.7 | 28 | Starting out. Tim6 says I made a lungo. I'm going to totally reset the machine after this. |

I did have to go and collect T2 early from school yesterday. He was angling for a day off and he got half a day off. He was surprisingly fine when he got home though, and he's gone back into school happily today.
Hot on the heels of yesterday's "you didn't clean my trainers very well", the trainers are still not clean. As I am a big softie I've cleaned them, and then I've put them through the washing machine for good measure. I hope they survive this.
Not much planned for the weekend. Clare is back in work today and all over the weekend. So we are not doing anything together, and we don't have the car. I might drag the boys to parkrun on the bus, and I might do some little DIY things about the place. Actually I just remembered I have the day to myself as the boys are going to Grandpa's. I wonder how early they're going? Not early enough to help me out I suspect... Maybe we can all go to work with Clare and work it out from there.
I haven't done a gigiversary for a long time, because gigs tend to slow down over christmas. Yesterday in 1991 though I was at Atom Seed. I think that was hot on the heels of seeing them support Love / Hate at the Marquee on New Years Eve 1990. They would be my favourite band for quite a while after this.
