Blog โ‰ซ 2022 โ‰ซ Second in the quiz

Raced out of work yesterday and headed to the Inn Doors for a little pre-party for our quiz. Saw a friend who is a retired cop in there, he was not impressed at all with Clare's twenty hour shift the day before. He reckons a thirty-six hour shift was not unusual in his day. His sons were with him though and were not sure about his story, as most of his long shifts seem to have revolved around a pub... Then got a taxi to the Three Hills sports centre for the main event, where Clare met us. She had dropped the boys off to her dad's for the night. The quiz was good, really well organised. One particularly interesting round was the bag of secrets. They handed round some sealed material bags, they had ten items inside and you had to identify them just by feeling. Not just downloading questions off the internet this time! We were pretty close to winning this quiz, we beat all the teams that my friend had said were contenders. There was about two points in it in the end. We got ten out of ten in the last two rounds, one of which we played our joker, so we really picked up the pace at the end. It was not to be.

After we went back to the Inn Doors until we got thrown out. Very rare for Clare and I to be out together like this, so none of my friends were interested in talking to me, they all wanted to speak to her and find out about her work.

I got up early this morning as usual, though as I did not have to make the boys breakfast I was able to head off early to parkrun on foot. We had left the car at the sports centre on Friday night, so I had to pick that up on my way back. I did not leave quite enough time to walk to parkrun as it goes, so I had to run for a bit. All good though as that's another running km towards my May target. I'm 50% done now, within the week, so I have set myself a stretch goal. Parkrun itself went well, it felt faster than it was.

Eighty-three down, seventeen to go to my next t-shirt.

I went to Tesco and collected the boys again and went back to Tesco because I forgot something. I tested them on a quiz question that we had got wrong, and thing two got it right. It was about the best selling video game of all time though, so in his wheelhouse. Minecraft apparently. Then into Folkestone again with thing two. We had lunch in Subway and then to the Quarterhouse for a show. I was worried it was going to turn out to be a bit crap or too young for him, but he really enjoyed "Dens and Signals":

Dens & Signals: Animals!

Sat 7 May, 11am & 2pm

The animals are gathering.

But one species hasn't turned up, and it's the species which has been causing all the trouble.

Something's got to be done, and whatever it is, it's going to be wild!

Fun, interactive and featuring original songs, Animals! is an empowering and uplifting performance about animals, humans and nature. It celebrates the amazing wildlife around us and makes big things feel possible.

After we were going to go to a cafe, but no-one was that enthusiastic so I saved the money. We did have to go to the blinds shop though to choose the colour for the blinds, so arranged for Clare and thing one to meet us there. They had energetically walked into town too. The stop at the blind shop cost more than a cafe would have as I had to pay 50% deposit for the lounge blinds. At least that is underway now.

On the way home I got Clare to drop me in Hythe and spent the cafe money on a few pints of mild in the Potting Shed.

Now we're watching Ace Ventura; Pet Detective1. Or, they are, and I'm writing this. Coronavirus weekly death graph for USA + Brazil + India + Russia + UK
