Blog โ‰ซ 2021 โ‰ซ What a lovely picture

To commemorate the wedding of Boris Johnson and Carrie Symons1, how lovely. The limited editions have gone up from 100 to 200 copies now I see, what a massive sell out. Only Brexit Island is also still available2. They're not all for sale though, here is another good one3.

In other news, work has been HARD this week, but ultimately satisfying. A lot of chasing people up to find out how things work, often to find them saying "yes we could have made that easier" and sometimes "oh, it doesn't actually work does it". I'm doing more documenting than coding, and I don't think that's going to change next week. I am planning on doing more coding, but that will lead to even more documenting too. I'm going to find fun ways to do it though.

Other interesting things from this week, yesterday I found there is a TV series of The Watch. This is a Terry Pratchett thing originally, the watch are my favourite strand of Discworld I think4. It's the crime / detective bits based around the city watch, an early form of police. "In a world where crime is legal, a group of chaotic misfit cops rise up to save their city from catastrophe. A punk rock comedy thriller inspired by Terry Pratchett's Discworld" - inspired by, see. It has proved very controversial, partly from changing Ankh Morpork from the traditional mediaevalish fantasy world to a more cyberpunkish thing. Also while the story is familiar, and the character names are too, a lot of the character attributes have been changed. It's not been changed necessarily for the worse, but it has been changed a lot. I watched two of them last night and will probably watch more, I can see how it would be unpopular with certain Pratchett fans.

This is a curious update, some of our vaccines are not approved, so if you had a certain batch of the Astrazeneca vaccine you would not be approved for European travel yet. I checked, I did not have one of these unapproved batches, but Andy did. There seem to be more cases of coronavirus down their way, Chris' son has it too so they are having to isolate. The increase in cases cannot be related to the actual vaccine though.

Thing two is learning coding! Sort of. He's been looking forward to Game Builder Garage5 all month, he's got it now, and he's using it to make his own games on the Nintendo Switch. He's following a course, being guided through adding all sorts of logic blocks and things to make his own game. It looks very good, I hope it has more longevity than other "worthy" video game ides we've had. Thing one goes back to Apex Legends on the XBox all the time, it's just killing, like Fortnite, but with awesome graphics. He's had real bad hay fever too this week.

A fairly busy day today, I have booked swimming for me and thing two, I will be going to Tesco, I will be driving the beetle, I really should be out running now instead of writing this, and then football later. Clare is going out with Dom, though I think they might struggle to get in somewhere as they have not booked. The Harbour Arm sold out really quickly, though it's not actually looking that nice today. "I don't mind standing up to watch it" said my naieve little too-busy-to-go-out-recentlyer, of course it's table service only still, you can't loiter in a pub. The Inn Doors are showing it, they are insane for passing up the opportunity to go there. I watched the Italy / Belgium game last night, good game, a shame for Belgium in the end I think.

Tomorrow night we're having dinner at Luben. I booked this, and I booked the swimming, I am really on top of the home admin this week. I think I did pretty well even keeping everyone fed this week. Those boys even had meat dinners three days out of five. I must cook up some not-meat dinners this weekend too so we have options for this week, and I must do it with time to spare for me to go to the Inn Doors on Sunday afternoon before we go to Luben...

This traveling and gathering for the football is not going to help out this third wave of infections we have right now. It's a good job your Boris Johnson has people like Matt Hancock and Michael Gove on the team who are so happy to help out with distractions.
