Blog2021 ≫ Up early and no plans

I'm up early this morning, way earlier than this, but got nothing to do. Thing one decided not to go to sports club this morning, but after I'd got up and breakfasted to take him. It's drizzly and blustery out there, so I don't really feel like making the most of the early start and going out for a run either. I had a slightly lazy day yesterday too, didn't go to the pub, and didn't even go for a walk after work. I did take thing two up to Tesco to get all the weekend treats (pizza, crisps, sweets, beer) that I'd normal get on a Saturday morning too, so my schedule is even emptier. I do have to do a supermarket collection at 11am and then take the boys round to grandpa's house, but no plans before or after that. I will have to put my big boy pants on and run at some point, if only to top up my Saturday exercise graph.

Starting to think about decorating thing one's bedroom. He wants the walls painted a vivid blue, that is not happening, but I might compromise on one wall in a colour of his choosing. Then a light beige for the rest, like the rest of the house. I'm thinking about this IKEA kitchen storage for his room, I think this might go nicely above his desk. It's a mix and match thing, so not exactly that, but I like that rack system, you can hang a pen holder off it, or a nice little phone shelf, lots of options. It might look great. Or it might be awful. Pay day in two weeks, and I think there's a bonus this month too, so I think I will take a chance. No actual plans for a day of painting yet, I'm still at the pondering stage.

This new variant of coronavirus is sounding bad, exponential growth in cases of it, might scupper the country's recovery plans. So far it is not affecting our plans for a trip to Portchester in a couple of weeks, but will it slow down the full reopening of the country? Hopefully it will just speed up the vaccination programme, as I don't think there will be much cooperation if the government say we got it wrong again, can you stay in a bit longer? I already see there are not as many people wearing masks on the school run, the social distancing is definitely slipping in a lot of places.

Speaking of the trip out of town I just spotted it means I will miss the Folkestone Coastal 10k1 that we have had booked for ages. Clare had already decided not to do it, as she's not had time to train because of work. I have not done 10k in one go for weeks now either, I was previously doing this every weekend. I'm not missing it because I can't do it, but because we are free to travel that weekend and its a bank holiday. Maybe next year.

Something a bit different, in the gap between my metal and indie years, twenty-seven years ago today I was at David Lee Roth in Portsmouth. The music sits firmly in my metal era, but the timing is slap in the britpop era.

10k: Ten km, just over six miles to you. Sometimes talking about 10,000 steps though, an arbitrary daily step count target.
