Blog2021 ≫ Smart lighting in the bathroom

I set up a simple dimmer switch for our en-suite yesterday but it's not quite right. Why do we need a dimmer in the bathroom anyway you might ask? We don't really, but it's one way of making it possible to turn the en-suite light off without getting out of bed, and also to do clever tricks like using a PIR to turn the light on when we get up, and turn it on very dimly when it's late at night say, it will be good. But one bit of it is quite unsatisfying. The extractor fan in that room is connected to the light switch, and the light switch now is left on. This means the extractor doesn't turn off a while after the light like it used to, and we can only control it with the isolator switch. I think I'd have to get a new extractor to make this work, and I think I might as well then get a whole new en-suite at some point.

I got one of these to cover the light switch1, and it's not as good as the other ones I got. The point of the other one is you can pop the new remote switch off and still access the real light switch, but with this one you can't..

I set up another one of these, it's beside the bed and I can use that one button to turn off all the lights in the house at bed time.
