Blog2020 ≫ Last day of work for two months

Working this morning only, just wrapping up loose ends, then I have two months off1. What am I going to do? Very little I think. Will I maybe even get round to my todo list that I have had hanging around for five years..? I cleared one box of junk this morning from the study, spur of the moment as the bins were being collected, I just threw some stuff in and it's been collected now. I need to be bold with this. I'm going to have trouble getting rid of the old desk at this time though, as no-one can really come out to collect it.

I'm working in my pyjamas today for the first time ever. I got up first, to make breakfast so the boys could do Joe Wicks workout, and then didn't finish getting ready after that. We're all rising a little later at the moment, and this situation does not look like changing any time soon. Clare is working from home today too, she's been on a call for nearly two hours, does not seem very efficient to me. However I guess they don't have much to do if they're not actually on site, and it's good to talk...

Doing an experiment today, I have turned off a couple of the raspberry pis2 while we're using the wifi / broadband for other things to see if it improves. I'm also going to try and dig out (or possibly buy) more ethernet cables to see if we can work better at the same time. I think it's just our cheap 4G broadband and so changes inside the house like using ethernet rather than wifi are going to make little difference. But, if one of my raspberries pi is uploading a load of video somewhere at the same time someone else is video conferencing or youtubing or playing an online game, that could affect it. I'm so fed up of hearing "it's glitching, this gameis so glitchy, I'm glitching" whenever thing one is playing Fortnite. Also it's made him so bad tempered, he reacted so badly to yesterday's problems that he's barred from Fortnite for today completely.

Going for a lunchtime walk today, and going to go in Waitrose if I can too as we're out of bin bags and low on fresh vegetables. This are essentials aren't they? It's not like I'm going to by wine and cider because it is pay day. Last proper pay day for a few months, this was 100% page and I've cancelled all the unneccessary subscriptions and saving schemes, and there's very little to spend things on, so I should stay in the black for a good while. May not even need to dip into my holiday savings any further. So when we come out of lockdown we could go somewhere. Even better would be if work still don't need me for a while but we're allowed to travel again, we could go somewhere then. Unlikely though I suppose, as as soon as travel restrictions are lifted our work will go crazy again.

Looks like a nice day out there, a high of 9° and a low of 1° though. It does feel chilly in the house, it must be deceptively cold out there.

Did I say this yesterday? Germany seems to be doing something right, or perhaps reporting differently. Their number of deaths per case of coronavirus is much lower. Dave suggests it's because they do have less dangerous levels of it but they are testing a lot more. So they're testing people who are perhaps so far symptom free but do have the virus. In the UK we are possibly only testing people who are already critically ill, and then not testing people again when they are recovered, so we never know.

Country cases deaths recovered
USA 164,359 3,173 5,507
Italy 101,739 11,591 14,620
Spain 87,956 7,716 16,780
China 81,518 3,305 76,052
Germany 67,051 650 13,500
France 44,550 3,024 7,927
Iran 41,495 2,757 13,911
UK 22,141 1,408 135
Switzerland 15,922 359 1,823
Belgium 12,775 705 1,696

raspberry pi: Credit card sized super cheap computer, awesome.
