Blog2020 ≫ Quiz and a busy weekend of stuff

When was I last here, Thursday? Has been an active few days really. Been quite busy at work busy enough to work through lunch a couple of days. Not been out for my long lunchtime walks. Hamstring or whatever it was is still giving me pain, though is a lot better. I might get it checked out when I'm off recovering from next eye operation. Took a stroll to the Inn Doors on Thursday after dinner though, and it was quiet. For a brief time I was the only punter in there, though then two friends came in and it was great. Not sure how well my new fun theory that the coronavirus was a judgement for brexit went down.

Friday I puzzled most of the day on trying to fix someone else's work, and I've still not got it. By fixing I mean rewriting it to my own personal tastes really, but I wasted a good few hours on that. Still found time to leave early because of the longer days and short lunches. However, NOT going to the Inn Doors for my usual early Friday session! We had the big Hythe music quiz to go to. I was free with two hours to spare before that though, and Clare could not come out until the start of the quiz, so I walked into Hythe early and went for one in the Potting Shed. This was my Inn Doors before the Inn Doors, and it was friendly and welcoming this time. Still just about time for one more so I walked around town considering my options. It' still Febrewery, though I have completed my challenge, so I ought to go in a new one. Didn't fancy any that I passed really, and was going to give it up and headed to quiz venue. Then thought I have half hour, I'm not far from the Three Mariners, so went in there, and that was great too. Then to the cricket and squash club, met Clare and headed in to meet our team. Turned out two other friends were also in the Three Mariners before the quiz but I'd missed them as they were in the other bar.

The music quiz was very hard indeed. Six or seven rounds, plus a good picture round where you had to identify Brit award winners from picture clues, actually this is it1 so there is a chance someone would have seen it before! There was a 90's round that we thought we would ace, but did not. Same with the 80's. We played our joker on the 70's round as the others were more confident there. We came third overall which was impressive I think.

Saturday morning I volunteered at parkrun, scanning the barcodes this time. The weather was a shocker, very impressed with the 185 runners2 for turning out, and nice to put names to faces by meeting them as I scanned them.

The boys and I got the bus to Folkestone after looking for a World Book Day outfit. We had sort of success in ASDA with Dennis The Menace costume. Really he wanted a real jumper, this is thin costume that won't wash, but we don't mind not winning book day. It's all about getting kids to read more, and these boys could not possibly read more. We went to Waterstones too and chose new books, and I'm pleased again they went for completely new challenging books. Thing two needed a bit more persuading but he's finished the new one he chose already and loved it.

Took them for lunch in Market Square, it was nearly a disaster as the menu did not look kid friendly. Thing one ordered adult tacos (two chicken and one spicy cauliflower) but thing two was going to order nothing at all. "Oh, do you want the children's menu?", yes, that might be an idea as these boys are fairly obviously children, why did you give me three adult menus when I came in? The food was delicious, the service can be a bit like how it can be in the sister outfit Luben. Our actual waitress was lovely but they seemed to be a bit flustered and were turning people away. There was room for people to sit but they couldn't cope with the number of orders, maybe just short staffed. I had the beetroot burger and it was really tasty again. Are you sure it's not a meat burger though?

I went back to the Inn Doors before dinner and saw a few friends, then home. I still had my bus ticket from earlier, and took a chance flagging the bus down and he stopped for me though I was not at a bus stop, result! Home to eat my "mushroom steaks" from Iceland, very tasty, very mushroomy, and watch Death In Paradise and QI.

Eye consultation today. Should be a short appointment I think. We're picking Clare up from pump class, then going to that, then to Pizza Hut and then the cinema to see a terrible kids film...
