Blog2019 ≫ Survived the boxing day run

Looking like a horrible day for it but I went for it anyway. Got there nice and early in case there were issues parking but there weren't, most people seem to walk there. About a third of people were signing up on the day I think, there were over 1000 runners in the end.

I didn't get a good start, and not expecting a good time. The conditions were crazy, not raining during the race but the whole route was basically a swamp. It was an exercise in trying to remain vertical for half an hour, slipping and sliding all over the show. A challenging run, mostly the slipperiness.

If I'd worn my better trainers I'd not have slipped about so much, but then the new trainers would be ruined like these old ones are.

Some looked like they were not going to survive it though, there was vomiting at the finish line and everything. Not me. Some had a nice run too being met at the finish line by friends and family holding out a pint for them! Also not me.

Worst thing was in all the excitement I didn't start the timer on my new watch, so no race time for me! I will get an official time later as they used the chip technology that we had at the Great South Run too.
