Blog2017 ≫ Action packed weekend for Dad's 70th birthday!

Goodness seventy actual years, that is a birthday. You don't seem it, glad you don't feel it, here's to another seventy years.

The birthday was Thursday, so we took a couple of days off. Headed off reasonably early Thursday morning, going via Volksfarmers. Dropped the beetle off for a bit of a pay day treat, fix the windscreen wipers, fit the wing mirror and sun visors, and also on the spur of the moment I asked them to look at the fuel gauge. Then we headed from there back to the motorway and a pretty smooth run to Portchester.

Sat relaxing ready to head off to Cams Mill for the long planned 70th birthday celebratory meal for about twenty people, and they got a phone call to say "sorry, we've had a power cut and can't feed you, we can help you move somewhere else"... INSANE, it was as a result of this explosion1 took out the power around the area, and scared a lot of people. It was a substation in Newgate Lane, the smoke cloud was visible around the town. All very well but what are we going to do??? Frantic phoning and we got in at Prezzo in Port Solent, very good of them. Then half hour later Cams Mill called back to say "it's coming back on, we can feed you, just an hour or so later", so we had to call Prezzo back, call everyone back who we'd told not to go to Cams Mill, and get ourselves sorted again. It all just about worked out...

The meal was very good, though marred very slightly by number two son suddenly taking ill. We got him some Calpol and he slept through most of the meal. Food and drinks all good, and that's a nice spot too. There was a wake and a wedding going on at the same venue, imagine the wedding if the power had not come back on...

Lots more drinking went on back at Mum and Dad's, more friends came round. Was nice to sit out in the garden, and to have lots of champagne. We sat chatting in to the night. I did think of trying to go to the pub later, but was rightly talked out of it.
