Electrician came round to fit the Nest, while I was not here. He says the only place the thermostat control bit can go is either where the existing thermostat is, hard wired, or it needs to go on a little stand, with a power supply, and work wirelessly. He didn't have a stand, and the place where the old thermostat is is no good, it's right above a radiator. We've always known the thermostat was in the wrong place, but we compensated by never using that radiator in the hallway. Apparently this is not good for the nest though, it has to go in the same room as a radiator that is on, but not too close. Hmm. Not sure why we can't extend the wiring that goes to the current thermostat to put it in another room, it's just the other side of the wall. Will see what he says when he comes back again on Thursday.
