Blog2016 ≫ Waiting for raspberry pi 3 patches

Been trying and failing to use bluetooth on the raspberry pi 3 and this1 from makezine.com2 explains why...

support for the onboard Bluetooth hardware still wont be available on launch day although it should be available soon afterward.

We also ran into one problem with the onboard Wi-Fi that only occurred whilst running the new board in headless mode. This ended up being caused by a power-saving mode on the connectivity chip. Effectively the board became unresponsive in headless mode if it was connected to the network only via Wi-Fi.

It's running:

$ sudo service [bluetooth](/wiki/#bluetooth) start
$ sudo service [bluetooth](/wiki/#bluetooth) status
 [bluetooth](/wiki/#bluetooth).service - [Bluetooth](/wiki/#bluetooth) service
   Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/bluetooth.service; enabled)
   Active: active ([running](/wiki/#running)) since Mon 2016-03-07 12:30:35 UTC; 2s ago
     Docs: man:[bluetoothd](/wiki/#bluetooth)(8)
 Main PID: 844 ([bluetoothd](/wiki/#bluetooth))
   Status: "Running"
   CGroup: /system.slice/bluetooth.service
           844 /usr/lib/bluetooth/bluetoothd

but I'm not sure how to use it. Neither hcitool

$ hcitool scan
Device is not available: No such device

nor blueman works. All I want to do is constantly scan and see what bluetoothd evices are in my house. Ideally I'll have three of these at different points in the house and will be able to triangulate where everyone and everything is, like a marauders map. But not yet. hciconfig returns nothing at all. So waiting on an update... I'm struggling with my existing motion stuff too. So no actual joy from the new raspberry pi yet.

raspberry pi: Credit card sized super cheap computer, awesome.
