Blog2016 ≫ This is unintuitive

It's more efficient (you achieve greater throughput) if no-one walks up the escalator, if everyone just stands still instead of having one side stand still and the other side walking up. I've not figured that out yet. Does the extra pressure of people walking up the escalator slow it down or something? It makes sense that it'd be most efficient if everyone was walking up (unless the thing about slowing it down is true). Interesting but I'm struggling with it...
