Blog2015 ≫ Going to the Royal Oak, Nonington for tea

Decided to look for a pub to go to on Saturday after Clare finishes work. We want real ale and vegan food, and a play area for the children. OK, I want real ale and vegan food, I'm happy to compromise on the play area so long as it looks like a nice place for the boys to play so I can concentrate on my beer... You wouldn't have thought it was that hard? How to find stuff like this? Folkestone Gerald used to be the best way, but i'm not up to date. I tried whatpub.com1 and while it is good, everything seems to be marked as child friendly so it's not a super useful filter. Clare looked on Trip Advisor and some other sites and we settled on the Royal Oak, Nonington (near Dover).

Made enquiries by email, as the food looks quite fancy, so hoping they can feed me, and yes:

Yes we can arrange a vegan meal for you. My go-to vegan dish is catalan spinach, grilled tomatoes, spinach, garlic, pine nuts and salad, if that is of interest to you?

Our children's menu consists of chicken goujons, cod goujons, sausage and mash, sausage and chips, and cheese and tomato pasta. Or you

Let's go! Will report back.
