Blog2015 ≫ If you think the TV going off at midnight is annoying, just wait...

Just read an article in The Times (that I can't link to or anything because of their pay wall), here are the first few lines:

Getting up early just to boil the kettle or switch on the washing machine might seem strange behaviour but such disruptions to daily routines will become the norm under plans to vary the price of electricity by the hour. Families paid up to 17 times more for each unit of electricity depending on when they switched on, in the first big trial of time-of-use pricing.

Sounds a lot like economy 7 to me, but sounds good. Using my lightwaverf skills I can turn off all the devices in the house at peak times! OK so we may have to cook our dinner over night and eat it at breakfast time, but if there are hundreds of pounds to be saved then I'm in.

Seriously though it sounds quite workable. If the difference in price per unit is really as high as it was in the trial (I ready the price went up approximately ten fold at peak times) then it would be great to cut power to the TV at these times (Saturday afternoons seemed to be one) to make sure we go out for a walk or read books or something at this time.
