Sounds like an infection of some sort. OK, it is an infection of some sort, just an infection of a tree, rather than a person. She has been on a bit of a wildlife day today and brought home an epicormic shoot. It's something that grows on the side of an oak tree. Looks quite cool, I'm not entirely convinced it is not a tiny wasps nest though.
