Blog2014 ≫ Now I'm wondering about getting rid of our boiler

We have a powermax 155x and on googling for it (what is it? It seems like a combi boiler as we don't have a tank, but it's not) no-one has a good word to say about it and the word deathtrap shows up a lot. So instead of sending back my nest thermostat I'm wondering now about splashing out on a new boiler...

Here's the best description of it I could find:

It's basically a combi with a storage tank/heat bank and was made by Range who went out of business, Baxi took over the spares but now don't really want to be bothered. Most of the spares are available but not all. When a demand for water (tap opened) is made the cold water passes through a calorifier and heats up from the stored water. They are huge things that take up most of the space in a normal sized airing cupboard when the same job could be done by a much smaller boiler which costs less to run and is more reliable.

Actually off out tonight, out of the house! Clare is out for dinner right now with our friends, and when she's finished dinner she's heading back here in a taxi and I get to take the taxi back to wherever they are to join them for a few drinks. Part of me hopes that it is in the centre of town and we do a mini crawl of a few pubs, but the other half of me is quite tired and hopes they're just at The Ship or Vasa or something so I can just have a mini night out.

Had a great day today, got up early and took the boys to Kidz Planet, then we headed to the beach too. It really butted over when we hit the beach unfortunately:
