Blog ≫ 2014 ≫ Not unlimited joy with the pi camera project
Hmm not exactly unlimited joy with the original pi security camera1 idea, the libraries I need won't install, they're all 404ing on me. And motion which I have used before does not support the raspberry pi on board camera. So, trying this one2. Looks good, and easy to understand python source code too. Have not done any image processing work for a long time.
The quality of the pi camera module is very good though. I've only used it indoors so far, it's been trained on my washing machine. Yes hilarious japes, however the washing machine is in the utility room, which is in the basement. With no windows, so basically no light. So mostly the picture is just a big dark rectangle, see:

That picture is more or less live updating though, so it might look better when you see it. The best you can really hope for right now is a little red led in the middle of the screen, that means the power is still on... Actually as it is on right now, I can see the digital display, cool!
That's a very limited resolution image, to save on my bandwidth and so on, but I will post more pictures full quality when I get it all set up properly. Maybe of more interesting topics than the washing machine too, probably the view out the front or something. See if I can catch another kid riding his bike over my lawn...
