Blog2014 ≫ Tried to pay off my mortgage today

OK, attention grabbing headline out of the way. I tried to pay off part of my mortgage today. I have money in an ISA and I am a fool for keeping it there while I still owe money on the mortgage. It's nice to have the ISA, and it's true that when the rates go up again the money that is sat there will start earning a decent lot of interest, but until I get to the stage where I don't have any debts I'm a fool to have any savings.

I can't pay much off it, THE MAN prevents this sort of thing, but I can pay a chunk off it, and then will pay off more next time I remortgage. Keeping the money I have in the premium bonds too, it's a nice thought that I might win one day. I have not won a thing since I stopped making regular payments in though, and neither has Clare, perhaps it is all a scam. We'll see if me mentioning it possibly being a scam influences whether or not we win anything this month.

Paying off the mortgage should be no big deal at my age. I'm sure plenty of people I know paid off already. We're the last generation who should have found it easy, but I just didn't buy at the right time...
