On our big weekend out, after leaving The Hole In The Wall we went to Lin's Thai Cafe 1 in Elm Grove. It had been recommended by a friend, alongside much scoffing that I was thinking of eating in a chain. Mocking scoffing, not eating scoffing. And after the fairly dull lunch we had in Giraffe I'm glad we tried something different. It just wasn't great though. Mine was OK, though the noodles were not ideal for me. Choice of rice noodles or egg noodles, so I obviously went for rice. They arrived with an egg tossed over the top of them. Can't expect anything super vegan in a restaurant like this though. The stir frie I had was quite good. Clare did not enjoy hers, she always orders chicken and then always complains about how Asian places tend to do poached or boiled or some other sort of strangely prepared chicken. My guess is it is probably frozen chicken chunks. Anyway, it was OK, worth a visit, and I would go there again, but chances are it won't be our first choice on our next visit to Southsea.
Talking of frozen food reminds me of a sad occasion yesterday. After our successful mini dinner party, at which we were discussing what you can do with rice and safe it is, I went and left a huge vat of freshly made jumbalaya out on the side all night. It was a particularly good one too, but because the "just so long as you chill it quickly" "don't leave it at room temperature" horror health scares were still fresh in my mind, I slung the whole lot. I cried a bit while I was doing it.
We'd managed four portions out of it already, so it wasn't a complete waste, but I reckon there was still a dinner and another three lunches to be had out of that.
Next stop on our big weekend out: The Wine Vaults.
