Blog2013 ≫ Couple of home automation evil genius jobs for the weekend

I got some of those outdoor christmas lights from B&Q this morning. I wouldn't normally but a) most people on the street have them, b) they're low energy, and c) I can remote control them! They're fully automated on the google calendar using my lightwaverf malarky1. I bought a new lightwaverf socket2 too to do the christmas tree while Clare is out. This one is entirely practical though, the christmas tree is positioned right over the socket so it will be hard to turn the tree lights on and off without knocking all the decorations down.

number two son has been very good around the tree so far, not really pulled any baubles off. He's just gone off for a post-lunch nap which is a result, as he slept on the way back from Dover B&Q too.

As well as my DIY electrics I have to make soup and clean up today, and find time to get back to another supermarket as the first one didn't have what we want for tea.

I have always associated streets with too many christmas lights with paedophiles for some reason, and I can't quite remember why. Must be something to do with the paedophile riots in Paulsgrove and there also being lots of christmas lights over that way. Now our house is lit up in this way I will stop espousing this theory.

Oh I also brought my wvc54g Linksys wireless camera back to life. It is monitoring our back door and sending me emails with video clips when someone walks past. I was going to chuck it out but realise it can have a useful life just plugged into the router performing that task. A raspberry pi would do the job a lot cheaper than that camera originally cost, but seeing as I can't sell it and would only throw it out, it is basically free. Even a raspberry pi can't compete with that.

raspberry pi: Credit card sized super cheap computer, awesome.
