Blog2013 ≫ Robot gardener are go!

The hose is pointed at the tree and connected to the butt pump. The butt pump is plugged into the lightwaverf socket. The socket is connected to the wifi link. The wifi link is connected to the raspberry pi. The raspberry pi is running my code1, connected to the internets, checking the google calendar. ifttt.com connects the weather report to the google calendar. In two minutes my bay tree is going to get watered by the power of MAGIC! And it's going to happen again automagically every day where the forecast is for no rain. Would be handy if, say, we were on holiday.

The butt pump is also controlled by the new phone app, so I can turn it off if it gets out of control...

UPDATE: And it all worked amazingly smoothly! The pump is more powerful than I thought so I don't need to leave it running for the 15 mins or so that I expected, a 2 minute water will do. And I will have to move the hose so the spraying end is higher than the butt pump, otherwise there is a syphoning effect and some water keeps trickling out after the pump is turned off. Apart from that this was AMAZEBALLS!

raspberry pi: Credit card sized super cheap computer, awesome.
