After all my talk of making my home smart with my own lightwaverf ruby gem, I just had a big fail. 11.30 came and went without it turning out the lights or boiling the kettle. Investigation needed. Now I have to boil the kettle myself, how backward!
UPDATE: Forgotten I'd changed the code1 to allow the interval to be passed in, so my code wasn't checking my calendar properly. The code was mostly right all along...
