The power is back on, nothing's gone bang yet! Programming from another remote worked well too, turn the switch1 on and off three times in a row and it's ready to receive a signal, then point any remote at it with a button you don't use pressed and then that can operate the switch. For now I have an old Sky remote that I'm going to use upstairs as we have no TV or anything up there. When I get another one of these for downstairs (assuming it's all OK) then for now we have spare buttons on the tv remote, and for the future a I'll get a new super remote like this one
though possibly not quite that top model, as it's nearly 300 quid1...
