Gurkha campaign is picking up pace nationally

FG ≫ 2009 ≫ Gurkha campaign is picking up pace nationally

See the BBC:

A campaign to raise funds for a national memorial to fallen Gurkha soldiers has been launched.

Supporters want a statue to be erected on the cliffs above Folkestone, Kent, where the 2nd Battalion the Royal Gurkha Rifles are based.

Folkestone town councillor Dhan Gurung who is leading the campaign said "some 45,000 Gurkhas have laid down their lives for Britain" over the years.

The memorial is likely to be a statue of a Gurkha in full battle dress

This is my site The Folkestone Gerald that I set up in a fury of excitement when we first moved here in approximately 2004. I'd been a frequent visitor for a while previous to that but I am technically one of those DFLs you get nowadays. The site was updated more frequently with a gig calendar + voting for best venues + things, + I know it was a useful resource for those who were moving here. Now I've moved out of Folkestone again (though just to Hythe) it doesn't get as much love as it used to. Ironic really as The town is now becoming the exciting place we knew it was just about to. My name is not Gerald BTW, the name comes from a pretend paper in an episode of The Day Today or something, the Portsmouth Gerald, and how there is a local newspaper here called the Folkestone Herald. Puns like this are great aren't they? Do get in touch if you have something to contribute, email anythign @ this domain, or try @folkestone or @pauly on the twitter.
