Good to see there's some civilisation in Folkestone

Here I was thinking that everyone between the ages of 16 and 60 had left town in a hurry... I moved down here last December (in fact, today is my year's anniversary), trading a tiny 2-up-2-down in Streatham for a monster Victorian place close to Folkestone town centre (which is costing me a fortune to do up).

Restaurants - try The India on Rendezvous Street, the food IMO is a lot better than the New Delhi (altho' the service can be slow), or there's a new one in Elham - the "Blue Vinny" - which looks quite posh, and will apparently be the subject of a TV programme next autumn.

I'm not sure of blogging etiquette re. e-mail addresses, but I'm keen to meet people locally, especially anyone who plays squash, cricket or five-a-side footie at a poor standard, or who fancies starting a crap rock covers band. My e-mail is michaelgalvan@yahoo.co.uk. Oh, and I'm ALWAYS up for a pub quiz...

This is part of my site The Folkestone Gerald that I set up in a fury of excitement when I first came here sometime in '04. I had been a frequent visitor for a while previous to that so I am technically one of those DFLs you get now. This site was updated more frequently with a gig calendar + voting for favourite places + things, + I hear it was a useful resource for others who were moving to the area. Now I've moved out of Folkestone again (though only to Hythe) it doesn't get as much attention as it used to. Ironic really as Folkestone itself is now becoming the exciting place we knew it was just about to. My name is not Gerald BTW, the name comes from a pretend paper in an episode of The Day Today or something, the Portsmouth Gerald, and how there is a local newspaper here called the Folkestone Herald. Puns like this are great aren't they? Do get in touch if you have anything to offer, email anythign @ this domain, or try @folkestone or @pauly on Twitter.
